On Wednesday, 9th March 2016 students of Beaconhouse School & College along with their teachers visited Pakistan Biotechnology Information Center (PABIC) and Tissue Culture facility of International Center of Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS). They also attended the awareness seminar on “Importance of Biotechnology & Its Development in Pakistan” organized by PABIC. Dr. Iqbal M. Choudhary (Director PABIC) elaborated them about PABIC activities and aims for the promotion of the biotechnology in Pakistan. “Biotechnology is the third wave in biological science and represents such an interface of basic and applied sciences, where gradual and subtle transformation of science into technology can be witnessed.” he said. The students first visited Pakistan Biotechnology Information Center (PABIC) office and PABIC library “Science for All”. The students also visited the Biotechnology wing of International Center of Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS). The group surveys the Plant Tissue Culture, Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology, Biotransformation, Immunological and Molecular Diagnostics labs. The researchers took them for visiting Green House Fields of ICCBS where they learned about the impacts of different cultivation practices being tested to get the maximum yield from biotechnology crops.

Students showed keen interest while visiting different labs of Biotechnology. They share their views by saying; “This tour teaches us about new biotechnology techniques and also give us effective informations related to new biotechnology crop varieties that are under development, and agronomic practices.”
