World Food Day 2015 celebrated with a motif “Social Protection and Agriculture; Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty”.

An event was organized by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R), Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to mark World Food Day (WFD), at National Agricultural Research Cent re (NARC) in Islamabad. The motif of this year’s WFD was “Social Protection and Agriculture; Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty”. Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research (NFS&R) Mr. Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan said the motif of the World Food Day is social protection and agriculture; breaking the cycle of rural poverty. Government has latterly taken certain steps which are necessary for the growth of agriculture sector and also for the social protection of the farmers. The government was committed to eradicate poverty and enhance food security at all levels. To achieve this goal the government has planned to launch zero hunger and family farming programs and FAO’s technical expertise and cooperation in this regard will be crucial, he added.
