Sindh Seed Council Sanctioned Two New Biotech Sugarcane Varieties for Commercial Cultivation

On Thursday, 14th April 2016 32nd Provincial Seed Council meeting was held at Karachi under Chairmanship of Minister for Agriculture, Government of Sindh. In this meeting, Dr. Abdul Fatah Soomro, Director, National Sugar and Tropical Horticulture Research Institute (NSTHRI), Thatta propounded two new Biotech sugarcane varieties Thatta-2109 and Thatta-326 for the sanction as commercial cultivation. Both the varieties of Biotech sugarcane developed from exotic fuzz of Hoama. In this meeting, it is shortly said by the Director of NSTHRI that “Both the varieties are well protected and supported and get successfully approval by the Sindh Seed Council. Both the Biotech varieties carry high cane product and sugar recovery potential, it is a good addition although in a pool of cultivation.”
