National Biosafety Center (NBC), Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency is very much delighted to invite you to the seminar on “Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)- Applications and implications” at 10 a.m  on 13th May, 2008 in Holiday Inn Hotel, Melody, Islamabad. The Federal Minister for Environment has consented to be the chief guest.
The GMOs are the product of modern biotechnology, have an increasingly important impact on various sectors and disciplines like in agriculture, medicine, pharmaceutical and environment etc. The GMOs and their products have many benefits, it may also pose potential and unexpected risks to human & animal health and the environment. The biosafety of biotech products for a sound and sustainable development in all walks of life is the need of the day. This Seminar will brings together decision about the applications and implications of GMOs in the country. The Government has taken up various steps for biosafety to regulate GMOs by notifying Pakistan Biosafety Rule, 2005 and National Biosafety Guidelines, 2005.
